Until just a few days ago workers were finishing the last additional works on the „Scarabeo 4“ rig, which, during the repair period, was covered with 26 000 cubic meters of suspended scaffolding. Now the rig is ready for its journey back to its steady position in Egypt. In a short work period of 90 days has been renewed about 200 tons of steel, including 60 tons of steel outfitting, and 60 tons of pipes. Also, accommodations have been restored with a complete renewal of sanitary pipelines in total length of 1.5 kilometre. Among other, the HP mud line working at pressure of 350 bar has been completely renewed and tested at 500 bar.
With the first platform of such type ever repaired in Viktor Lenac shipyard, „Lenac“ has proved that it has both knowledge and expertness to execute demanding jobs of this kind. Every day about 200 to 300 people were working on this giant semi-submersible drilling rig, reaching 114 meters in height, 109.3 meters in length overall and 100.3 meters in breadth. They were being lifted up to the main deck at 40 meters above sea level by two elevators, which were installed on the rig's red leg bringing 20 persons in two minutes. During the entire repair period were respected strict safety standards conformed with the highest HSE standards and despite such a high number of workers, no serious injury was recorded. The rig was also enclosed with a safety net and 500 meters of inflatable boom were deployed around the rig area. Particular attention was given to environmental protection aiming to quality coexistence with the local community that had no complaints.
“We have proved with this complex project that “Lenac” can perform repairs of offshore platforms successfully and timely. We have completed all works within the deadline and at satisfaction of Saipem particularly in terms of quality of workmanship”, concluded Leo Pavelić, Project Manager, who managed a project team of young engineers with support of a qualified workforce and infrastructure in which “Lenac” has invested a lot of resources during this year.
