Works on Scarabeo 4 in full swing
September 11,
2009
-
After the complex maneuver of berthing and anchoring not seen very often has been completed, the Shipyard's workers are facing big challenge. Around 200 people will be needed on board the rig every day to perform the works. For that purpose, two elevators have been installed on the rig's red leg having capacity of 20 persons in two minutes. The rig is served by a 350t crane.
„We are working at full pressure. Works have started on all positions. We have short deadlines, but I am confident that we will finish this important project on schedule and with high standards, as many times before. The work is proceeding as planned to the satisfaction of the Owner“, says Mr. Leo Pavelic, Project Manager.
Particular emphasis is given to HSE aspects. „We are applying the highest world standards set by Saipem. We have implemented an electronic identification system enabling us to know the number of people on board the rig in real time. It is also interesting that the rig is enclosed by a safety net as the safety of people is our primary concern“, adds the Project Manager.
As the rig is moored outside of the Shipyard's port, full attention is paid to environmental protection. According to the Project Manager, the rig area will be enclosed by 500 meters of inflatable boom during the whole repair period. Sand-blasting and airless coating methods have been replaced with ecologically acceptable technologies or completely removed from use. „In order to reduce noise, we have purchased a sound insulated generator that will serve all energy needs on the rig. Also, the rig's sanitary discharge systems will be out of use during the repair period. For that purpose, we have purchased modern ecological sanitary cabins.“
The Project Manager ends enthusiastically: „We are happy to see that this project has brought us optimism back and hope that it will open the way towards a successful cooperation with Saipem bringing us more vessels from their large fleet“.
